The project’s “Venus Flytrap” exemplifies the band’s genius of intersecting tradition and innovation by reimagining Little Sunflower by Freddie Hubbard. The track cleverly intertwines Hubbard’s 1967 melody with Southern Hip-Hop’s contemporary, polyrhythmic Trap sound. EKLIPSE reveals the band’s versatility as it uplifts and unequivocally reclaims music of the African Diaspora such as R&B, Rock, Afro-Latinx/Caribbean, and more. Another song entitled “Life and Death” captures a similar jazz-rock sound aesthetic, while the band’s ear-catching “Shake It” introduces what Ohemeng calls “Jazz-Drill” onto the Jazz music scene. eklipse
